Miles Away

It's an unforgiving wind out tonight;
Headlights dim and the miles are long.
My destination still nowhere in sight,
As I try to get back to where I belong.

Been up all night and my eyes are red;
I'm trying to fight the urge to sleep.
I think of home and a nice, warm bed;
A home far away, 'pon hills ever steep.

My hands grow numb from the cold air;
Clinging to my jacket I slowly breathe in.
With a gentle whisper I say a prayer,
That I might get to where I'm headin'.

I wish you'd be there at my journey's end,
With open arms and that gorgeous smile.
A confidant, a lover, a faithful friend;
To help me make it past that last mile.

A Memory of You

When the night starts to settle in,
I slowly drown in this funny feelin'.
As the night gets to a darker hue,
My mind wanders in a sea of blue.

In darkness I dance with my spirit white -
I pray that it helps me sleep tonight;
But with every drop that washes over me,
It leads me to you and your memory.

And of one I cannot help but smile -
'twas a cold night, and many a mile
We drove through the night forlorn;
I could've driven till the early morn'

Or forever, if that could ever be,
Because with you right next to me;
Where or how long it doesn't matter;
Summer heat or the depths of winter.

I couldn't care less where I am going;
Just as long as I'd be there knowing
You were so near, right by my side;
Giving me that funny feeling inside.

So I stare at my last glass, alone;
I breathe in, and soon it's all gone.
As for this memory of you, I'll keep;
A lullaby as I lay me down to sleep.

A Love Letter

It's been a while since I last wrote to you, my love;
The days have passed and turned to months you see.
The hours of the day have never felt nearly enough;
How did I get this way? What has become of me?

Remember how we could talk endlessly, my love;
We would dream of taking a walk down by the sea.
Holding hands, just staring at the clouds above;
Lying in the sand, in our little world of fantasy.

I have been thinking a lot about you, my love;
My days would be empty without your memory.
It keeps me alive, how so I am quite unsure of,
But I've arrived at where it don't matter to me.

All I know is I've never been the same, my love;
Like a blind man who has once seen true beauty,
Now left to dream, a lonely diamond in the rough.
I'm losing steam, my engines burning out on me.

Where did you go? Will I ever find you, my love?
If so you know, I have never been as much happy;
Since you left, every push seems to turn to shove.
My heart bereft, seeking solace in your company.

So I thought of writing this letter to you, my love;
I have been fighting my demons to be set free,
But this world is cruel, more than any could bluff;
I pray that you are well, that you remember me.

It's been a while since I last wrote to you, my love;
I've gone many a mile just looking for sympathy.
It's been hard times, and it's been mighty tough;
I write this rhyme, so that you might find me.

Random Verses (12)

Dawn is breaking and my eyes are red;
I think of what I've done and what I've said.
It seems I haven't done a thing but instead,
Been stuck with thoughts of you in my head.

I wish that the day would came to pass,
When we'd both build something to last;
A dream onto which we could hold fast.
Build a future together; forget the past.

I want to be there to make sure you don't weep;
Climb mountains for you no matter how steep.
You're the best part of the day when I get to sleep;
The best part of memories that I'll forever keep.

The cool night air takes me far away
To a place; a dream I wish I could stay.
For there lies the maiden ever so fair;
'tis none but you with your flowing hair.

As it starts to drizzle I feel the flow,
And I wish it would last till tomorrow.
For in my dream time seems to slow,
As I walk in the rain with you in tow.

I hear the echoes of a melody dark and deep,
And perched as I now 'pon hills e'er so steep,
I feel it from the valley of my soul like a gentle weep;
Working it's way up from below upto my mind's keep -
Filling it with such sorrow as I lay me down to sleep.

Echoes in the Dark

'tween happiness and sorrow some wait for tomorrow,
Hoping that perhaps they'll be struck by cupid's arrow;
Lying asleep they paint the most beautiful picture,
Of the world and a future so filled with rapture.

While in the darkness some souls they remain,
Caught in the sadness of an endless refrain;
Bound and broken they weep and they pray,
That their sorrow and torment won't last another day.

I've lived both lives and I know the feel;
Hope and despair so vague yet so very real.
But tonight in these few seconds that I am awake,
There's just one wish that I'd like to make -

That you'd be here so I could hold you just once, but then again no;
If I held you now, I'd want to hold you again and I'd never let go.
For we could be symphonies you and I,
Even if life's melodies were low or high.

Tonight if you were here I'd hold you and I won't let go,
As I whisper softly for you, a tune to keep us till tomorrow...

The Lady In Black

As I lay asleep 'pon my bed in the dead of night,
I hear her whispers - her voice calling out to me.
I know she'll come again to share her dark delight,
The lady in black - and I'll share her sweet misery.

With eyes like the rain she starts to pull me in -
She takes my hand and with cold hands she grips.
I feel her touch and I can resist no more, I give in;
Pleading once more for a taste of her tainted lips..

Silent, she leads me on - out into the night,
And in the moonlight our dreams take flight.
The skies pour but my lady she doesn't care -
In the cold rain we share our little nightmare..

I start to tremble, caught in her cold embrace.
I open my eyes; in the dim light I see her face -
Beautiful eyes that shall haunt me forevermore,
For the lady in black, she's just worth dying for..

She smiles; then with her hands she pulls me closer,
And softly she whispers words I'll always remember.
Then with the rush of a cold wind she's gone, I shiver;
Alone in the rain, waiting, lost in a dream without her...

Random Verses (11)

Another day, and I just got old;
I'm in bed feeling rather cold.
If ever I had a magical charm,
I'd wish for you to keep me warm.

The trials of the heart are the hardest to bear -
They worry you though you try not to care.
But 'tis human nature in the pursuit of love,
To do bad things if the heart's just had enough!

If there was a moment I could fore'er keep,
From memories hidden somewhere deep,
It'd be the day we met - your smile so sweet;
How you charmed me in ways e'er so discreet.

I used to dream in colours blue,
But as of late when I'm lying in bed,
I only see dreams in colours red -
Red means I'm thinking of you.

As I tread the path of dreams tonight once more,
Thru the passages in my mind I enter that open door.
Inside you'll be there to help be drown my sorrow,
And we'll hide away till morning comes tomorrow.

Perched on the terrace beneath the shade of a blue night,
I stare out into the darkness and pretend I'm not alone.
Your voice echoes in my head and I'd call you on the phone,
But I've got theories to learn and passages to read tonight.

So I guess I'll close my eyes and think of you again,
And in my mind's eye I'll stare at that picture of you.
As minutes turn to hours I'll get by and pretend,
That I'm not alone; that I was somewhere with you.

The silence fills my mind with emotions in shades red & blue;
Thoughts in my mind that seem to float round images of you.
Red for the passion that you stir within this tired heart;
Blue for the emptiness in knowing that we are so far apart!

From This Heart Painted Black

As I lie down to sleep, I know she's crying;
With every breath I take she weeps for me.
I close my eyes, and try to get to sleeping,
But in the darkness I feel her surround me.

Valentine's Day is just around the corner -
We should be laughing; deeply in love.
But things have changed as I've grown older,
This troubled heart, it's just had enough.

I wish I could hold you for one last time;
Sing to you of times you've had with me.
I know it's cruel, but tell me is it a crime,
To walk where this heart of mine takes me?

I don't want to leave, or tell you goodbye;
I'll take it all back and change this ending.
But now you've bled this heart all but dry,
And all it yearns for is a new beginning.

I won't ever forget you; yes I never will -
Everything I do will remind me of you.
I pray someday if my heart's beating still,
It will find it's way back... back to you.

Ballad of the Broken

The walls you've built I understand -
You must've tried hard; built them by hand.
But I'll come a knockin' every once in a while,
For these legs won't last me another mile.

You used to shelter me from demons my own.
The smiles you gave, the care you've shown;
I did not deserve them, nor did I realise -
I'd need them so much as this heart slowly dies.

You've always wanted to know me better -
You waited patiently but alas I never
Walked in thru the door you kept open;
I watched as slowly it closed again.

I started on my way like I always have;
Tried to hide my guilt with a smile or a laugh.
And as it was it wasn't long before
I found I'd left my heart there at your door.

The ballads we've shared; each and every line -
I've kept them safe and many a time,
I read them again and for a while,
I'd remember how you always made me smile.

So if the light fades and it gets cold inside,
And you feel like taking a walk outside -
Open the door and you'll find me waiting;
And yes I'd promise I won't ever be leaving!

Wish You Were Here

With the sorrow and pain I bear,
I search for a face that'll care.
But I can think of only you my dear;
Oh! How I wish that you were near!

The fire still burns inside this heart;
On it shall rage though we are apart.
My lips, tainted with the taste of yours;
Though words fail me my love endures.

I wish that I'd met you much earlier,
For the precious times we had together -
They ne'er seem enough to satisfy;
I am helpless against these tears I cry.

The days drift on and I am alone;
No one cares - to each his own.
But you were mine, yes you were -
Before these tears e'er so bitter.

I gaze ahead into the still darkness;
Empty and longing for your caress.
I cry your name out into the distance;
Nothing - just the sound of silence.

Do you hear me calling out to you?
Do you think of the love we knew?
And if you remember what we had,
Does it ever make you feel sad?

For in all that time in yesteryears,
I was always there to catch your tears.
But now my hands are numb with fear,
And I call for you, but you are not here.

The wind picks up, the cold seeps in,
And though the fire still burns within -
It starts to wither and I shed a tear;
Oh! How I wish that you were here!
